It probably sounds a bit too bright, and not much body to it.
You can say it sounds like there is no soul to it. Empty, dark and lifeless.

Well, the first likely cause is that the source of your music isn't all that great.
But why? It can be caused while the song was recorded in the music studio.
In that case you'll have to find another recording of the song and compare them and keep the best one of course. For example MP3 comes various sizes and thus qualities. But you could try to find another file format as well like M4A, AAC or FLAC.
As soon as you have the right recording you either are satisfied with the sound quality or you aren't. If the last is a fact, you'll need to find another cause of the terrible sound quality.

Another plausible cause is the listening device. If you're listening trough a cheap mp3 player, you could try to switch to a better one. If you don't own a better one, you can always try to borrow one from your friends. If you don't have friends with a mp3 player or don't have any friends altogether, you can go to a store and try the most expensive one there both the player and the headset.
Now you've probably found out that your MP3 player wasn't the best and need to buy a new one.

But what if you're listening trough your hifi system? Wow, that's a complete different story. Now it can be anything. It can be the player as well. So you can follow the steps as described above. As soon as you've improved your player, it is time to check the following components. The amplifier is highly important for the sound quality, try to borrow some different amps from your local hifi store and listen to them and buy the one you find best. Of course you'll need to make sure the amps will fit your budget.
Do the same with the loudspeakers. Now you must have the perfect sound system.

Lots of people use YouTube for one sole purpose. And that is, my friends, listening to music.
Nobody uses a CD anymore. For the youngsters among us: a CD is a round disc, slightly bigger than a beer coaster and it is used to store data (for example: music). Just like you can do on your USB-stick or smartphone. The CD started to sell in 1982, yes that is 29 years ago. It’s an incredible old technique still used by some older people today. The new generation listens to music on a MP3, M4A, FLAC, AAC, WMA or WAV player. Almost every player can play any of these file formats.
The music on YouTube is in M4A or MP3 format, so it can be played on any player.
The choice of music on this video site is impressive, almost anything can be found. A lot more than in your local record shop. A record shop is a shop (offline) where you can by those old fashioned CDs and DVDs (a DVD is the same as a CD, but can store more information and is mostly used for movies).
The trick is to find the right music on YouTube, download it and copy it to your player.

The music of today

Today’s music is very similar to the music of the past. The present songs by present artists consist of 3 basic elements. First we have the drums or rhythm if you like, second we have the bass and third the melody. But if you compare those elements with the elements of the music from over a hundred years ago, you’ll find that there isn’t much difference between them. The only difference is that the recording quality of the present songs is better than those back then. It is quite amazing though that in all those years there hasn’t been a real change in music. Of course there are some sub cultures with very strange and unique songs. But that’s not what people want to listen to. All they want is the basic music I described above. Modern electronic music contains those same three elements as well. Next time you listen to a modern song, just pay attention and you will notice that it’s just drums, bass and melody. That’s what people want to hear and that’s why no other music becomes popular. Most popular songs sound very similar. If you listen to a top 1000 of all times, you’ll notice that the songs are basically all the same. Just with different voices or sometimes different instruments. The melody is all the same. Maybe you could categorize the melodies in sad music, happy music and romantic music. And that’s it. Popular music will never change.
